Soldiers Stories
Lt William Gleeson

Lieut. William Gleeson
Born in New haven in 1841, he was the son of Denis and Margaret (O’Meara) Gleeson. He mustered in on Oct. 30, 1861 and served until he mustered out Aug. 3, 1865. A brother, Dennis J. Gleeson served with the Ninth and mustered out on the same date. After the war he played a prominent role in the Fenian movement where he organized a company of 102 men for invasion of Canada. His wife’s maiden name was Sinnott. They had eight children, one with a degree of M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
